Dear All-American Applicants and Nominating Directors,

 

On behalf of Historic Programs and the National Band Association Board of Directors, I am very sorry to announce that the All-American D-Day Band will delay its inaugural trip to France until June of 2023.

 

We are all very disheartened with this decision, which came only after many discussions and much deliberation. There has been a lot of feedback regarding the timing of this event. There are lingering concerns about the pandemic. We have also heard of parents struggling to make day-to-day financial decisions this year, much less committing to supporting future European travel.

 

Ultimately, there has been overwhelming parental and band director feedback, stating that it would be best to wait one more year before launching the All-American D-Day Band. I am personally disappointed as there is a terrific group of applicants that would have been a joy to make music with. For the Class of 2022, know that we are discussing possibilities that could allow members of your class to apply to participate. Expect to hear more about your special circumstance as we work out the details.

 

Again, I am very sorry to break this news to you. We are extremely grateful the support the All-American D-Day Band has received from all corners of the country. Thank you, directors, for identifying the best of your best and advocating for them with your thoughtful recommendations. And my deepest thanks to all of you, our next generation of leaders, who applied. I know it took careful reflection, some parental arm-twisting, serious financial planning, and hard work to stay in top musical shape to prepare for the audition. I also believe that you have benefitted from your efforts and know from your recommendations and applications that you are indeed All-American quality! I send you all my very best wishes as you finish up this most unusual year. I hope to see you in 2023!
