Audition​
Audition deadline: October 1, 2023

Woodwind and Brass Applicants:
​
The audition video for potential woodwind and brass students should consist of the following.
-
3 major scales at least two octaves
-
1 or 2 selections that demonstrate lyrical and technical ability (etude, segments from a solo work, and/or excerpts from ensemble music)
​

Please use the following procedure when creating your audition video:
​
-
Introduce yourself as follows: “My name is (first and last name). I attend (name of college or university) in (city and state where college/university is located).”
-
“My first scale is (scale name for your instrument, not concert pitch).”
-
Play first major scale.
-
“My second scale is (scale name for your instrument, not concert pitch).”
-
Play second major scale.
-
“My third scale is (scale name for your instrument, not concert pitch)."
-
Play third major scale.
-
“For my prepared selection, I will perform (name of selection)”
-
Perform prepared selection
-
Once complete, post the audition video as one file to YouTube, Vimeo, or other comparable video sharing platform.
-
Provide the link to the video in the appropriate location on the audition application form.
-
Upload a pdf file of the prepared selection in the appropriate location on the audition application form.
Percussion Applicants:
​
Potential percussion students should submit one video file containing all instruments for which the student would like to be considered. The total video length should not exceed 10 minutes. Students should carefully consider their choice of prepared excerpt for snare drum and tenor drum. The directors will evaluate the difficulty of the technique displayed.

“My snare drum excerpt is (title of musical work from which excerpt is taken) .”

Play snare drum excerpt of your choice (if you would like to be considered for snare).

“My tenor drum excerpt is (title of musical work from which excerpt is taken) .”
-
Play tenor drum excerpt of your choice (if you would like to be considered for tenor).
-
“Here is my bass drum excerpt.”
-
Play designated bass drum excerpt (if you would like to be considered for bass drum)
-
“Here is my cymbal excerpt.”
-
Play designated cymbal excerpt (if you would like to be considered for cymbals)
-
Once complete, post the audition video as one file to YouTube, Vimeo, or other comparable video sharing platform.

Provide the link to the video in the appropriate location on the audition application form.
