D-DAY MEMORIAL CEREMONY

The All-American Community Choir will feature talented and enthusiastic singers from across the United States.

You will perform in a D-Day Memorial Ceremony as well as be featured on stage in The concert de libération in Sainte-Mere-Eglise, the first Normandy village liberated by American Paratroopers. In addition to walking in the D-Day Memorial Parade,  your choir will also participate in the Festival de musique de libération at the La Madeleine Cathedral in Paris before returning home.

In addition to meaningful performances, you will take a step back in time as you visit at the Normandy American Cemetery and other WWII sites as well as historic places in this region of France, including the medieval walled fortress of Mont-Saint-Michel. Your All American Community Chorus experience will culminate with a visit to Paris to enjoy the sites, the culture and the history that is unique to the one of the world’s greatest cities - “The City of Light.”

Dr. Merry Carol “Marcy” Spencer recently retired after a 39-year
teaching career, most recently serving as Director of Choirs and
Performing Arts Chair for 24 years at Gilbert High School in Gilbert, AZ.
Her choirs consistently earned superior ratings for artistic excellence,
beautiful singing, and exceptional programming. A versatile conductor,
Dr. Spencer has led ensembles of all ages, including award-winning
vocal jazz groups. Dr. Spencer has held leadership positions in AMEA
and ACDA and was recently named “Choral Educator of the Year” by
the Arizona Choral Educators Association.

She holds a B.M.E. from the University of Northern Colorado, an M.M.
from Northern Arizona University, and a D.M.A. from the University of
Oklahoma, where she earned the 2000 “Dissertation of the Year” Award.
Aside from public school, her previous teaching appointments include
Northern Arizona University, Oklahoma City University, and the
University of Nevada-Reno, with a focus on conducting and music
education. She is a native of Pueblo, Colorado.

As a founding director of the Canterbury Children’s Chorus, an
Assistant Director of the Canterbury Choral Society (OKC), and a
former Director of the Reno Philharmonic Chorus, Dr. Spencer finds
great joy in the fellowship and shared purpose of making music within
community choirs. Alongside her favorite pianist, Barb Willey, Marcy is
honored to be part of the D-Day Choir. She cherishes the opportunity to
commemorate history, and to contribute to such a meaningful and
memorable event through song.
